Hair Transplantation Methods

During the examination, after identifying the donor area, a decision is made on which method to use for hair transplantation. Today, hair transplantation is performed in two different ways known as the FUT Technique and the FUE Technique.

Both techniques allow for the transplantation of live hair follicles and do not require general anesthesia. The difference between them lies in how the hair is harvested.

1-FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction): FUE involves the individual extraction of hair follicles using specialized heads with diameters of 0.70, 0.80, and 0.90 mm, aided by a micromotor. This process is carried out one by one from the area between the two ears or alternative regions, and it does not involve the use of a scalpel or the need for stitches. One of the major advantages is that there are no visible marks left at the points where the follicles are extracted. The FUE method allows for the extraction of a greater number of grafts, enabling denser and more natural-looking hair. It provides the possibility to harvest approximately 3000-4000 grafts from an individual with an average hair density.

2-FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation): FUT involves the extraction of a thin strip of hair-bearing skin located between the two ears. This strip is then microscopically dissected to separate the hair grafts. With the advancement of the FUE technique, this method is no longer used or is less preferred. The reason for this is that it leaves a scar in the donor area and does not allow for the extraction of the desired number of grafts. This technique uses a scalpel, and stitches are applied to the area where the grafts are harvested. After a short haircut, the scar from the procedure is visible. Hair transplanted using this technique does not shed again. It is essential to remember that each patient is unique, and all assessments should be tailored to the individual. Since the procedure is performed in a hospital environment under local anesthesia, you can return to your normal life within a few days. At Estetik International clinics, we prioritize innovative hair transplantation techniques and place great importance on our patients’ comfort, which is why we do not use the FUT technique.

Process Details

What is Hair Transplantation?

Hair transplantation involves taking hair from the dense area at the back of the head (the donor area) and transplanting it to areas with less hair or baldness. It is the solution for individuals who have experienced significant hair loss. Hair transplantation is a preferred and permanent method, known for delivering natural and healthier hair results. During this procedure, grafts taken from the genetically non-shedding area are used for transplantation in areas such as the scalp, beard, eyebrows, and mustache.

Our Privileges

Approved by the Ministry of Health

All of our services are carried out and monitored with approval from the Ministry of Health.

FUE Technique

FUE, the process of individually extracting hair follicles without making a linear incision, is used with the assistance of a micromotor.

Hygiene and Health

Our Hair Transplant Procedures are conducted in a hospital environment, adhering to pandemic conditions, and maintaining sterility.

Hair transplantation can also be referred to as hair follicle transplantation. It involves the extraction of hair follicles from areas with dense hair growth (such as the back of the head and the sides) and transplanting them into areas with thinning or balding hair.

Hair transplantation is a highly preferred permanent solution, especially because it provides natural and healthy-looking results. It helps eliminate various psychological and social challenges that individuals may face due to hair loss, allowing them to regain their confidence and well-being.

The Causes of Hair Loss

When we examine the causes of hair loss, we encounter a multitude of factors, reasons, and triggering elements. Hair loss, which has become one of today’s most common problems, can occur due to genetic predisposition, unhealthy diet, chronic illnesses, excessive hair styling practices, and many other triggering factors. We can examine the problem of hair loss under the headings of male pattern baldness and female pattern baldness.

Androgenetic alopecia, or male pattern baldness, is observed in the early twenties and progresses rapidly, resulting in hair loss, especially in the crown area and the front strip of the head, within a few years. The causes of male pattern baldness are related to genetic predisposition.

Female pattern baldness is a highly prevalent condition, affecting one in every ten women worldwide. It is also associated with genetic factors or triggered by different factors. This type of hair loss is characterized by thinning, lifelessness, and is particularly noticeable in the hair parting line. Hair transplantation can achieve modern and effective results in addressing this type of hair loss as well.

Regardless of the cause of hair loss, if the underlying issue is investigated, and if it is determined that the triggering factor is due to a treatable reason, the initial step should be reasonable treatment, followed by considering hair transplantation. If hormonal diseases, deficiencies in vitamins, minerals, or any substance in the body are found to be the cause, then the priority should be the medical treatment of the hair loss problem at the disease level.

Donor Area Selection in Hair Transplantation

In hair transplantation, the determination of healthy and transplantable hair follicles is one of the most crucial aspects. During the examination, the area from which the follicles will be taken, known as the donor area, is identified. The most suitable hair follicles for transplantation are usually taken from the back of the head, which is the area with the highest hair density. If the desired yield is not available in this area, other options like the beard, chin area, and finally the back, shoulders, legs, or chest area are considered. Identifying the donor area is one of the critical points for proper planning in the process.

For patients with severe baldness issues, the donor area is initially examined in the back of the head. If there are not enough healthy hair follicles in this area, the beard area is considered. The beard area is actually one of the most efficient and highly qualified regions for the donor area, where very good results can be obtained, and compatibility issues are minimal, provided that the patient is comfortable with potential thinning in the beard area. The chest donor area is different in terms of the yields it provides, as different types of hair follicles are present in this area, making it suitable for test grafting initially. The last area to be examined as a donor area is the back and leg region. Similar to the chest area, these areas contain different types of hair follicles, so the most suitable and qualified ones are selected for harvesting, taking into account the patient’s comfort and avoiding unnecessary strain.

The Stages of Hair Transplantation

The stages of hair transplantation are one of the primary concerns for anyone experiencing hair loss. Knowing what to expect can increase the patient’s confidence in the procedure and help them feel psychologically prepared for hair transplantation. In this regard, you can seek assistance from our specialist who will perform the procedure and ask any questions you may have.

Pre-Hair Transplantation Operation

Preparations Before Hair Transplantation Operation at Home and On the Morning of the Operation Day at the Clinic

Preparations Before Coming to the Clinic

  • Follow your doctor’s instructions for any preparations to be done at home and stop taking any medications that may cause side effects as advised by your doctor at least 1 week before the hair transplant procedure.
  • Start using B and E vitamins as recommended by your doctor.
  • Two days before the operation, you can enhance blood circulation in the donor and transplant areas with massages.
  • If you plan to have your hair cut before the hair transplant, be sure to consult with your doctor.
  • On the night before the operation, take a thorough shower to clean your hair from dirt and rinse it well.
  • Start your operation day with a good breakfast and arrive at the clinic with a full stomach.
  • Avoid active, exhausting, and stressful activities and sports before the procedure, and come to the clinic well-rested.
  • Bring a comfortable, breathable, cotton hat that does not squeeze your head and allows air circulation for use after the procedure.

Pre-Operative Hair Transplantation

Your doctor, by rechecking the planning made during the examination, will take you to the clinic room where the hair transplant will be performed. At this stage, for your comfort, you can ask any questions that come to your mind. Before the operation, medical photographs of you will be taken, and the hair transplant will begin.

Hair Transplantation Operation

Hair transplant operation generally follows these steps:

• First, the identified donor area is prepared
• Then, the area where the hair follicles taken from the donor area will be transferred, i.e., where the transplant will be performed, is prepared
• The hair follicles to be transplanted are prepared
• Finally, the hair transplant procedure is performed, and the hair follicles are placed in their new areas

After taking photographs, drawings are made on your scalp, and the area is marked. Local or regional anesthesia is applied to prevent any pain. During this time, you can read a book, watch television, or even sleep.

The donor area, which is one of the most valuable assets of a patient with hair loss problems, is meticulously extracted by your doctor without causing any harm. Depending on the degree of baldness and the number of hair follicles taken, there may be a break after varying periods.

After the given break, the hair transplant process begins. The density of transplantation is determined according to the hairline, the characteristics of the hair taken, the patient’s age, and the shape of the head and face. Healthy hair follicles taken from the donor area are transplanted to the area with reasonable inclines.

One of the most critical stages of the operation is the direction and angle of transplantation to avoid a “doll-like” appearance when the patient’s hair grows. At this point, the doctor performing the hair transplant uses their aesthetic vision and professionalism. A bandage is applied to the donor area, and the procedure is completed.

After Hair Transplantation Operation

After hair transplant, you can go home immediately, drive a car, and continue your daily life. There might be minimal swelling on the day of the procedure, but generally, there is no pain. Your doctor will explain in detail what you should do after the hair transplant. It is essential to follow all recommendations for the successful outcome of the operation.

• After hair transplant, it is crucial to keep the area sterile. Therefore, make sure your pillow is clean. You can sleep comfortably on your back at a 45-degree angle for a better and more comfortable sleep.
• Apply the medications, creams, shampoos, and follow the instructions recommended by your doctor. You can take a shower according to the recommended instructions 24 hours after the operation.

Hair Growth After Hair Transplantation

After the hair transplant operation, the phase known as “shock loss” of the transplanted hair occurs around the 2nd week. Following this shedding, new healthy hair begins to grow within the next 2 months. After the 8th month, nearly all of the hair transplanted will have grown healthy and thick. As mentioned earlier, within one to two weeks after the transplant, there is a phase called “SHOCK LOSS.” After this sudden loss, healthy hair begins to grow within two months, and by the eighth month, it is observed that almost all of the newly transplanted hair has grown healthy. If the preferred method is organic hair transplantation, having much more efficient and healthy hair is possible.

The most important thing to know is whether the hair can be nourished after transplantation. If your hair cannot be nourished healthily, it will inevitably fall out again.
